Capri

Blue Grotto, faraglioni and rocky beaches

The island of Capri is known for its fancy hotels and villas perched on steep cliffs overlooking unbelievably crystal clear blue water. It’s not surprising that it has attracted vacationers for decades .

The two quaint towns on the island are Capri, the more visited one, and Anacapri, which is set high above Capri on Mount Solaro. A quick day trip to Capri does not allow enough time to take in the natural scenery and to fully enjoy this gem so I recommend staying at least one night. If you are staying in Capri and need a break from the crowds head to the charming Anacapri where you can find the small shops, the Blue Grotto, Villa San Michele and the chairlift on Mount Solaro.

Where to Stay in Capri

We stayed two nights at the historic Grand Hotel Quisisana that has welcomed guests for over 150 years. We enjoyed everything about this 5 star hotel but there are a variety of hotel and B&B options to look into on Capri.

Capri.com is packed with helpful information about all things Capri. You’ll learn how to best navigate getting to Capri and what to do once you arrive. You can also purchase tickets before arriving so you will be guaranteed a seat on during the busy season. It’s a great site and I recommend it highly!

The official website of the city of Capri is also another source for trip planning.

How to Travel in Capri

Hire a driver in a convertible car and venture over to Anacapri. The cars are available at the harbor or just down the hill from the Piazzetta in Capri. It was also fun to take the funicular to and from the Marina Grande for a couple of euros. The walk up the hill is very steep and you wouldn’t want to make the climb with luggage.

What to See in Capri

Hike to the Arco Naturale.  From the Piazzetta in Capri head down Via Vittorio Emanuele to Via Camerelle, then follow Via Tragara towards the Arco Naturale. Follow the signs, stopping at Le Grotelle restaurant for a drink or lunch. (restaurant is more like a snack bar) From there, the path takes you down to the Punta Tragara, with incredible views of the famous Faraglioni rocks. This trail has lots of steps, both up and down, but the trip back to the piazzetta is relaxing as your wind through ‘neighborhoods’.
